Notohypsilophodon is a genus of small ornithopod dinosaur that lived in South America during the late Cretaceous. Notohypsilophodon is so named based upon a superficial similarity to the genus Hypsilophodon while also recognising the more southern occurrence of this individual. Notohypsilophodon is so far only known from the partial remains of a juvenile, but we can ascertain through study of related dinosaurs that Notohypsilophodon would have been a fairly small herbivore, browsing upon low growing plants. Notohypsilophodon would have had to rely upon sharp senses, quick reactions and fast running to stay out of the mouths of predatory dinosaurs such as abelisaurs that were roaming around South America at the same time.
