Although often mentioned in lists of plesiosaurs, Hexatarsostinus still remains a very obscure genus. The genus was named upon the basis of the extra bones in the limbs which had evolved into paddles for swimming. Hexatarsostinus has been treated by some as a nomem dubium. Like with its plesiosaur relatives, Hexatarsostinus can be expected to have been a piscivorous (fish eating) predator that in the case of the genus, was endemic to Western Europe.
