Although often mentioned in lists of plesiosaurs,‭ ‬Hexatarsostinus still remains a very obscure genus.‭ ‬The genus was named upon the basis of the extra bones in the limbs which had evolved into paddles for swimming.‭ ‬Hexatarsostinus has been treated by some as a nomem dubium.‭ ‬Like with its plesiosaur relatives,‭ ‬Hexatarsostinus can be expected to have been a piscivorous‭ (‬fish eating‭) ‬predator that in the case of the genus,‭ ‬was endemic to Western Europe.
