Named By: Edward Drinker Cope‭ ‬-‭ ‬1880.
Synonyms: Pogonodon cismontanus,‭ ‬Pogonodon davisi,‭ ‬Pogonodon serrulidens.
Classification: Chordata,‭ ‬Mammalia,‭ ‬Carnivora,‭ ‬Nimravidae,‭ ‬Nimravinae.
Species:‬P.‭ ‬platycopis (type), P. cismontanus, P.‭ ‬eileenae.
Diet: Carnivore.
Size: ‭U‬navailable.
Known locations: Eurasia and North America.
Time period: Rupelian of the Oligocene through to the Tortonian of the Miocene.
Fossil representation: Several individuals.

       A little known nimravid,‭ ‬Pogonodon seems to have had a wide distribution from the USA to the Ukraine as well as existing for around twenty-three and half million years.‭ ‬This suggests that Pogonodon would have been one of the most successful genera of nimravid so far known.
