Name:
Arkharavia.
Phonetic: Ark-ha-rah-ve-ah.
Named By: V. R. Alifanov & Y. L.
Bolotsky - 2010.
Classification: Chordata, Reptilia, Dinosauria,
Saurischia, Sauropoda, Titanosauriformes, Somphospondyli.
Species: A. heterocoelica
(type).
Diet: Herbivore.
Size: Unknown due to lack of remains.
Known locations: Russia.
Time period: Late Cretaceous.
Fossil representation: Based upon a caudal (tail)
vertebrae and a tooth. Further caudal vertebrae where later added to
the genus.
Arkharavia is currently regarded to be a dubious genus of sauropod dinosaur because the lack of additional remains means that it will be very difficult to infer further fossils to the genus. In addition to this, vertebrae added to Arkharavia may actually have come from a hadrosaurid dinosaur, which means that only the holotype of a single vertebra can be used to identify further remains of Arkharavia. This vertebra is considered to have come from a somphospondilan titanosaur, examples of which include Argentinosaurus and Sauroposeidon.
